How to Volunteer

If you are selected as a Manager, Assistant Coach, or Team Parent, and you complete the season, your work bond requirement will be fulfilled.  

Manager & Coaches Responsibilities

Manager Responsibilities

  1. Team Leadership & Decision-Making:
    • Serve as the primary leader and decision-maker for the team.
    • Develop and implement game strategies, including batting orders, pitching rotations, and defensive alignments.
    • Make real-time decisions during games, including player substitutions and strategic adjustments.
  2. Communication:
    • Act as the primary point of contact between players, coaches, parents, and league officials.
    • Communicate the team's schedule, including practices, games, and any team meetings, to players and parents.
    • Address any player, parent, or team concerns, ensuring open lines of communication.
  3. Player Development:
    • Assess player skills and assign positions based on strengths and areas for improvement.
    • Work with coaches to develop practice plans that focus on skill development, teamwork, and strategy.
    • Monitor player progress and provide feedback to help players improve their performance.
  4. Team Organization:
    • Ensure that all players have the necessary equipment, uniforms, and safety gear.
    • Manage the team roster, including player substitutions and lineup changes.
    • Maintain accurate records of player attendance, game results, and any disciplinary actions.
  5. Game Day Management:
    • Prepare the team for games, including warm-ups and pre-game strategy discussions.
    • Oversee the conduct and behavior of the team during games, ensuring sportsmanship and adherence to league rules.
    • Coordinate with the opposing team’s manager and umpires to ensure games run smoothly.

Coach Responsibilities

  1. Skill Development:
    • Plan and run effective practices that focus on developing players' skills, including hitting, pitching, fielding, and base running.
    • Provide individual instruction to players to help them improve specific aspects of their game.
    • Teach players the rules of the game, including strategies and situational awareness.
  2. Player Mentorship:
    • Serve as a mentor and role model for players, encouraging positive behavior and a strong work ethic.
    • Address any individual player issues, such as confidence, motivation, or performance concerns.
    • Foster teamwork and sportsmanship among players, promoting a positive team culture.
  3. Game Assistance:
    • Assist the manager with game-day decisions, including strategy, player positioning, and substitutions.
    • Monitor and manage the bullpen, warm-up pitchers, and track pitch counts.
    • Provide real-time feedback to players during games, helping them adjust their performance.
  4. Safety & Injury Prevention:
    • Ensure that all players are properly warmed up and stretched before practices and games.
    • Monitor players for signs of fatigue or injury, and take appropriate action when necessary.
    • Make sure that players are using equipment correctly and safely, and adhere to all safety protocols.
  5. Specialized Coaching:
    • Focus on specific aspects of the game, such as pitching, hitting, or fielding, depending on your expertise.
    • Work with individual players or small groups to refine their skills in your area of specialization.
    • Stay updated on the latest techniques and strategies in your area of expertise to improve coaching effectiveness.
  6. Support the Manager:
    • Collaborate with the manager to implement the overall team strategy and objectives.
    • Take on any additional duties as assigned by the manager to support the team’s needs.
    • Step in to lead the team if the manager is unavailable.

Shared Responsibilities

  1. Team Discipline:
    • Enforce team rules and standards, ensuring players understand the consequences of poor behavior or unsportsmanlike conduct.
    • Address disciplinary issues promptly and fairly, in coordination with the other coaches and manager.
  2. Encouraging Sportsmanship:
    • Promote good sportsmanship among players, coaches, and parents, both on and off the field.
    • Lead by example, demonstrating respect for opponents, umpires, and all participants in the game.
  3. Parental Engagement:
    • Engage with parents, keeping them informed about their child's progress and the team’s activities.
    • Address any parental concerns or questions in a timely and professional manner.

Team Parent Responsibilities

Team Parent Responsibilities

  1. Administrative Tasks:
    • Help the manager with non-coaching tasks, such as paperwork, to allow the manager to focus on coaching and player development
  2. Snacks & Hydration:
    • Coordinates post-game snacks and hydration for the team
  3. Team Communication:
    • Help with communication with parents, the league, and on social media 
  4. Fundraising:
    • Distribute fundraising packet to the player's guardian
    • Collect money for league sanctioned fundraiser
  5. Address Concerns:
    • Be the first point of contact for players or parents with concerns or questions
    • Work with individual players or small groups to refine their skills in your area of specialization.
    • Stay updated on the latest techniques and strategies in your area of expertise to improve coaching effectiveness.
  6. Dugout Awareness (Lower Divisions: During Game):
    • Helping to maintain orderly conduct and making sure players are picking up any garbage and their equipment after the game
