Sayreville Little League offers baseball divisions designed to accommodate players of various ages and skill levels each season. Our mission is to ensure every player has a positive experience while fostering their skill development in the appropriate division. These division descriptions serve as a general guide and may be adjusted based on annual registration numbers.

Sayreville Little League General Rules

  1. Minimum playing time - All players at the start of the game must play the field for 6 outs and bat 1 time during the game.  Managers should not sit a player for two innings in a row
  2. Only approved SLL volunteers are allowed on the field or in the dugout
  3. There is no on-deck circle and there are no swinging bats in the dugout
  4. Coaches cannot warm up pitchers or keep the record book while on the field
  5. No jewelry can be worn by players (medical alerts exempt)
  6. All player protection must be worn
  7. Managers must ensure all bats meet Little League Standards
  8. Managers are responsible for parent's code of conduct.  No one is allowed to argue with Junior Umpires
  9. Managers and coaches are responsible for leaving a clean dugout.  Please empty garbage cans
  10. Both teams are responsible for grooming the field when playing the last game of the day
  11. When a game is scheduled after a completed game, coaches are asked to hold team meetings off the field and out of the dugout to help ensure the next game starts on time

T-Ball Division

Overview

Our T-Ball program is designed for our youngest players, typically ages 4 to 5, who are just being introduced to the game of baseball and softball. In this fun and supportive environment, children learn the basics of the game, including hitting, throwing, catching, and running the bases.

T-Ball focuses on skill development, teamwork, and building confidence, all while fostering a love for the sport. Coaches emphasize a positive and encouraging atmosphere, ensuring that every child has a chance to participate and enjoy the experience. The games are non-competitive, and the emphasis is on learning and having fun.

Managing and Coaching T-Ball Division

The T-Ball team manager is responsible for overseeing the team’s operations, ensuring a safe, organized, and enjoyable experience for players and families. The manager is the primary point of contact between the league, parents, and coaches. Managers are expected to communicate regularly with parents, prepare lineups, manage player rotations to ensure fair playtime, and resolve any concerns or conflicts. Additionally, they must ensure that league rules and safety guidelines are followed and represent the team positively during all interactions.

Coaches, on the other hand, focus on player development and fostering a love for the game. They are responsible for teaching basic baseball skills, such as hitting, throwing, catching, and running bases, while creating engaging drills and practices that build player confidence. Coaches provide positive reinforcement, assist the manager during games, and ensure equal opportunities for all players to participate. They are also expected to prioritize safety, supervise players, and promote teamwork and sportsmanship. Together, managers and coaches work to create a positive, supportive environment that encourages players to develop skills, build confidence, and enjoy the game of baseball.

Coach Pitch Division

Overview

Our Baseball Coach Pitch program is designed for young players, typically ages 6 to 7, who are ready to advance from T-Ball and build on their fundamental skills. In this program, coaches pitch to the players, helping them develop better timing and confidence at the plate while reinforcing the basic mechanics of hitting, fielding, and base running.

The Coach Pitch program emphasizes fun, skill development, and sportsmanship in a positive environment. Players will begin to experience a more structured game, while still focusing on learning the fundamentals of baseball in a non-competitive setting. Coaches guide players through the rules of the game and encourage teamwork, preparing them for the next levels of play.

Baseball Coach Pitch Division Rules

All games will last for 1 hour 30 minutes max
No stealing bases
Throw 6 - 8 pitches before placing the Tee for the batter

Rookies Division

Overview

The Baseball Rookies program is designed for players, typically ages 7 to 8, who are ready to take the next step in their baseball development. This is often the first level where kids begin to experience player-pitched games, introducing them to the fundamentals of pitching while continuing to refine their skills in hitting, fielding, and base running.

In the Rookies program, players learn more advanced strategies, such as base stealing and defensive positioning, while still emphasizing skill development and sportsmanship. Games become more competitive, but the focus remains on learning the game, improving individual skills, and building teamwork. Coaches play an active role in teaching, guiding, and supporting players as they prepare for higher levels of play.

Baseball Rookies Division Rules

  1. No New Inning after 1 hour 30 minutes
  2. Drop Dead Time of 1 hour 50 minutes
  3. If the inning is not completed at drop dead time, the score reverts to the last completed inning
  4. It is both team manager's responsibility to track time limits
  5. This rule applies to regular season games, even if there is no game scheduled after, no exceptions
  6. Once the pitcher walks their first batter, the coach will pitch at all 4 ball counts.  The batter can strike out or hit, but cannot walk
  7. Baserunners may take 1 base only on overthrows
  8. 5 runs per inning max
  9. Pitch count books must be completed before leaving the complex
  10. The pitch count must be verified and agreed to by the managers every half inning or when a pitching change occurs
  11. Any player who plays catcher in 4 or more innings is not eligible to pitch on that day (1 pitch in the 4th inning counts as a complete inning)
  12. If a player delivers 41 pitches, he or she is not allowed to play catcher position for the remainder of the day

Minors Division

Overview

The Baseball Minors program is designed for players, typically ages 9 to 10, who are ready for a more competitive and structured level of play. In this division, players fully pitch the games, and they begin to experience a faster pace and greater focus on game strategy. The program helps players refine their pitching, hitting, fielding, and base-running skills, while also introducing advanced rules like bunting and stealing.

Teamwork, sportsmanship, and a deeper understanding of the game are key focuses in the Minors program. While competition becomes more significant, coaches continue to emphasize player development and a positive, encouraging environment. The Minors program is a crucial step in preparing players for the Majors division, as it balances skill growth with increased competitiveness.

Baseball Minors Division Rules

  1. No New Inning after 1 hour 40 minutes (No exceptions)
  2. Drop Dead Time of 2 hours
  3. If the inning is not completed at drop dead time, the score reverts to the last completed inning
  4. It is both team manager's responsibility to track time limits
  5. This rule applies to regular season games, even if there is no game scheduled after, no exceptions
  6. Speed up Rule for catcher with 2 outs
  7. 10 Run Rule
  8. The last-inning unlimited rule is only in effect when both managers have agreed to the last inning and the time limit rule is agreed to before the inning starts.  The game must be within the 10-run rule.  If the inning cannot be completed before the time limit is reached, the score reverts to the last completed inning.
  9. The defensive team may elect to intentionally walk a batter before or during the at-bat.  Managers must request time from the umpire and inform the umpire of the intent to walk the batter.  Pitches not thrown still count toward the pitcher's pitch count and must be recorded as such.
  10. Pitch count books must be completed before leaving the complex
  11. The pitch count must be verified and agreed to by the managers every half inning or when a pitching change occurs
  12. Managers should check the pitch count book for his or her team along with opponents to verify player's eligibility to pitch on game day

Majors Division

Overview

The Baseball Majors program is the highest level of Little League play for players typically ages 11 to 12. At this stage, players experience a fully competitive environment, with an increased focus on advanced skills, game strategy, and teamwork. Players in the Majors program demonstrate a strong understanding of the game and are encouraged to develop their leadership both on and off the field.

In the Majors, the pace of play is faster, and players are exposed to more complex aspects of baseball, such as pick-offs, advanced pitching techniques, and situational hitting. While competition is key, the program continues to emphasize good sportsmanship, teamwork, and individual growth. This level serves as a foundation for players who may go on to play at higher levels of the sport.

Baseball Majors Division Rules

  1. No New Inning after 1 hour 45 minutes (No Exceptions)
  2. Drop Dead Time of 2 hours
  3. If the inning is not completed at drop dead time, the score reverts to the last completed inning
  4. It is both team manager's responsibility to track time limits
  5. This rule applies to regular season games, even if there is no game scheduled after, no exceptions
